THE BATTLESHIP DEVELOPMENT AND HISTORY (1815-1945)
In the period 1860-1900, the development of the battleship was as complex and technologically advanced as spaceship development and travel to the moon was in the 1960s.
The changes occured in a climate as politically charged as the cold war in 1960s. The main proponents were the arch rivals Britain and France and the newly emerging Germany. Unexpected consequences came later from 3 "bit players", Russia, Japan and the USA.
This is not a history of naval warfare
but focuses on the technology and equipment which produced the Battleship and almost bankruped the major powers and which did not produce a good result.
